48th Guild Conference 4th – 6th November 2011

Photos of the 2011 weekend

Guild members and their partners are invited to attend the conference weekend. The booking forms for the conference are in the June newsletter, but should you wish to download the booking form then a copy has been put on the web site in the Members Area; this needs to be returned to Colin Tweed with £12 per person conference fee.

Once more it is at the West Retford Hotel (Best Western), Retford, Notts; this hotel has a large accommodation block across the car park with all the functions in the main hotel. The cost for the weekend, which includes dinner on Friday and Saturday and Saturday and Sunday Lunch, is £175.00pp.

This year's programme is as packed as ever; the weekend starts on Friday evening with a home-made aperitif wine reception provided by Peter and Elaine Robinson. This will be followed by an evening meal with wines provided by a team of our members to accompany each course. Please also feel free to bring your own home made wines and beers to finish the evening. (NO COMMERCIAL CORKS OR LABELS).

The first guest speaker on Saturday morning is Don Hawkins who will be conducting an experiment called 'A fresh look at wine sweetness'. This will be followed by a Lager tasting conducted by Doug Hodkinson and his team of beer makers. After lunch Fred Day is giving a talk and tasting session on home-Madeira wine. Please bring your tasting glasses to each event.

The AGM is on Saturday afternoon at 3.30pm; remember that this is your chance to voice your views.

Sunday starts off with the wine and beer assessment conducted by Kate and Richard Edge. The wine is dessert red, and the beer is strong lager (2 x 1 pint bottles required). There is a claret jug and a tankard to be won. The talk for Sunday morning is 'Tales from the Show Bench' by Doug Hodkinson.

To help you select wine to complement the food the dinner menus are on the web site in the Members Area.

Those who have not been before why not give it a try? We are a friendly group sharing a weekend with like-minded friends. Let’s make 2011 even more successful than last year.
