Photos of the 2009 weekend Guild members and their partners are invited to attend the conference weekend. The booking forms for the conference are in the June newsletter, but should you wish to download the booking form then a copy has been put onto the web site; this needs to be returned to Colin Tweed with £12 per person conference fee. Once more it is at the West Retford Hotel (Best Western), Retford, Notts; this hotel has a large accommodation block across the car park with all the functions in the main hotel. The cost for the weekend, which includes dinner on Friday and Saturday and Saturday and Sunday Lunch, is £159.00pp. This year's programme is as packed as ever; the weekend starts on Friday evening with an sparkling wine reception provided by Bob Morton and Karl Grocock. This will be followed by an evening meal with wines provided by a team of our members to accompany each course. Please also feel free to bring your own home made wines and beers to finish the evening. (NO COMMERCIAL CORKS OR LABELS). The first guest speaker on Saturday morning is Richard Brooksbank who will be talking about and supplying samples of dessert wines. This will be followed by a pre-Victorian beer tasting conducted by Mike Davey and his team of beer makers. After lunch Charles Hill is giving a talk and tasting session on wines of Italy. Please bring your tasting glasses to each event. The AGM is on Saturday afternoon at 3.30pm; remember that this is your chance to voice your views. The talk that takes place during the AGM is a demonstration and tasting conducted by Personally Yours Chocolate of Sheffield. Sunday starts off with the wine and beer assessment conducted by Kate and Richard Edge. The wine is sweet white, and the beer is Dark Mild OG 1045 (2 x 1 pint bottles required). There is a claret jug and a tankard to be won. The talk for Sunday morning is 'Those Radio Times' by Bob Marsdon. This is a follow-up to Bob's previous very successful talk on Victorian music halls. To help you select wine to complement the food the dinner menus are on the web site. Those who have not been before why not give it a try? We are a friendly group sharing a weekend with like-minded friends. Let’s make 2010 a bumper weekend. |
