46th Guild Conference 23rd – 25th October 2009

Photos of the 2009 weekend

Guild members and their partners are invited to attend the conference weekend. The booking forms for the conference are in the June newsletter, but should you wish to download the booking form then a copy has been put onto the web site; this needs to be returned to Colin Tweed with £10 per person conference fee.

Once more it is at the West Retford Hotel (Best Western), Retford, Notts; this hotel has a large accommodation block across the car park with all the functions in the main hotel. The cost for the weekend, which includes dinner on Friday and Saturday and Saturday and Sunday Lunch, is £159.00pp.

This year's programme is as packed as ever; the weekend starts on Friday evening with an aperitif wine reception provided by Fred Day. This will be followed by an evening meal with wines provided by a team of our members to accompany each course. Please also feel free to bring your own home made wines and beers to finish the evening. (NO COMMERCIAL CORKS OR LABELS).

The first guest speaker on Saturday morning is Dr Bernard Lamb speaking on Usual and Unusual Foreign Fermentations. This will be followed by a beer tasting - entitled "The Big Six by the Young Ones" - conducted by Peter Robinson and his team of beer makers. After lunch the guild President , Frank Stead, is giving a talk and tasting session on wines of Bordeaux with a difference, of which, Colin is sure, will be full of good humour. Please bring your tasting glasses to each event.

The AGM is on Saturday afternoon at 3.30pm; remember that this is your chance to voice your views. The talk that takes place during the AGM is by the ladies of the Dukeries Sugar Craft Guild..

Sunday starts off with the wine and beer assessment conducted by Kate and Richard Edge. The wine is red social medium sweet, and the beer is Porter OG 1060-1070 (2 x 1 pint bottles required). There is a claret jug and a tankard to be won. The talk for Sunday morning is 'Heart Beat Revisited' by Brian Gent who will be telling us about his past humorous experiences as a policeman.

To help you select wine to complement the food the dinner menus are on the web site.

Those who have not been before why not give it a try? We are a friendly group sharing a weekend with like-minded friends. Let’s make 2009 a bumper weekend.
