Conference Details

59th Guild Conference 3rd – 5th November 2023

This year the conference will be held at the Park Inn hotel in Peterborough; the accommodation and function room in this hotel are all under one roof. There is a lift to all floors and the room that we will be using is on the ground floor opposite reception. There is a car park at the hotel. The hotel is reasonably central in Peterborough. The train station is not far (trains from the north east stop at Peterborough); there is a bus station nearby at which National Express coaches stop; and there is a large shopping centre within 10 minutes walk from the hotel for the judges' partners!

The weekend starts on Friday evening with a home-made wine reception of placed aperitif wines from the 2023 National Show, and a German Wheat beer brewed by Richard Baldwin. The evening meal follows with your own home-made wines. Please also feel free to bring your own home made wines and beers to finish the evening. (NO COMMERCIAL CORKS OR LABELS).

The first session on Saturday morning is the wine and beer assessment, conducted by Elaine Robinson. Please bring your bottles with you on Friday evening. After coffee, there will be a beer tasting of various styles of Trappist beers conducted by Richard Baldwin, Mike Davey and Charles Hill. After lunch, there will be a wine tasting titled 'Excellence in Wine' by Bernard Lamb. Please bring your tasting glasses to each event.

The AGM is on Saturday afternoon at 3.30pm; remember that this is your chance to voice your views. The minutes from last year's AGM and the agenda for this year's AGM are available.

The wine assessment is Medium Dry Rose and the beer assessment is London Porter (2 bottles required).
There is a claret jug and a tankard to be won.

To help you select wine (no commercial bottles please) to complement the food, the dinner menus are on the web site in the Members Area.
