Conference Details

45^th Guild Conference 24^th – 26^th October 2008

Guild members and their partners are invited to attend the conference weekend. The booking forms for the conference will be in the May newsletter, but should you wish to download the booking form then a copy has been put onto the web site; this needs to be returned to Kate Edge with £10 per person conference fee.

Once more it is at the West Retford Hotel (Best Western), Retford, Notts; this hotel has a large accommodation block across the car park with all the functions in the main hotel. The cost for the weekend, which includes dinner on Friday and Saturday and Saturday and Sunday Lunch, is £143.00pp.

As usual it is an action packed programme; the weekend starts on Friday evening with a sparkling reception and still keeping bubbles in mind, there will be beers to complement each course at dinner. This will give the beer makers a chance to show their expertise, but don’t fret - if you prefer your home made wine, then please bring it along. (NO COMMERCIAL CORKS OR LABELS).

The wine for the judges’ wine assessment on Sunday is Rosé medium dry, and the beer is Newcastle Brown OG 1055 (2 x 1 pint bottles required). There is a claret jug and a tankard to be won. The talk that takes place during the AGM is on flower arranging and there will be a raffle to win one of the arrangements.

Our special guest speakers will be Dr. Keith Thomas speaking on Yeast’s of Yesterday, and following from the Victorian beers last year, our speaker for Sunday morning is Bob Marsdon on the Victorian Music Hall.

Those who have not been before why not give it a try? We are a friendly group sharing a weekend with like-minded friends. Let’s make 2008 a bumper weekend. Members also get their chance to voice their views at the AGM on Saturday afternoon.
